Can you tell me more about the program and curriculum?

At Apogee Cincinnati, our curriculum is guided by a simple question: what do our children truly need to thrive in today’s world—and tomorrow’s? Each day combines hands-on project-based learning, daily physical movement, time in nature, and Socratic conversations that nurture curiosity and critical thinking. Children have space to follow their interests, develop real-world skills, and build meaningful relationships. Our academics are woven through everything we do, but our heart is in developing whole, healthy, engaged young people who care deeply about themselves, their community, and the land.

Is Apogee Cincinnati a school?

Apogee Cincinnati is an alternative to traditional school—think of us as a vibrant learning community. We’re not a conventional classroom, but a place where children and families come together to explore, grow, and learn through real-world experiences, meaningful projects, and daily connection with nature. We serve the whole child and the whole family, outside the boundaries of standard schooling.

Are there full time or part time options?

At Apogee Cincinnati, you have options that fit your family’s rhythm. We offer a full-time, four-day-a-week program as well as a part-time, two-day-a-week option. Both paths are rich with hands-on projects, outdoor adventure, daily movement, and meaningful discussions—so you can choose the schedule that works best for your child and your lifestyle. Learn more here.

If you're looking for even more options, we offer Enrichment Fun Fridays, which you can learn more about here.

Approximately every 6 weeks, we will have a week off so that all can rest and replenish.

What does a typical day look like?

Every day at Apogee Cincinnati is a fresh adventure. We start with movement—physical training or outdoor play—to wake up our bodies and minds. Next comes hands-on, project-based learning or focused academics, woven together with rich Socratic discussions where kids ask big questions and learn to think for themselves. Time outdoors is a given, whether we’re exploring trails, tending a garden, or just breathing in nature. Throughout it all, there’s space for creativity, meaningful connection, and the kind of curiosity that doesn’t fit inside a textbook.

Attached is a sample schedule of our day. While this is subject to some flexibility, depending on the needs of the day and week, this is generally what a day might look like. Age groups will have an age-appropriate schedule of activities.

We are being intentional about prioritizing movement and having multiple blocks of movement before any intensive brain work. Research shows that movement improves memory and ability to focus for up to 3 hours.

Students will have options for how they want to engage with their core academic areas, and we will work together with them to build engaging, individualized options. Project work will be collaborative.

How do you handle discipline and classroom management?

At Apogee, we follow a code: integrity, bravery, honor, compassion, politeness, honesty and loyalty. These are characteristics that we discuss and reflect upon every day.

In addition, we co-create learning agreements. Together, we decide on the important ways that we choose to behave and treat each other, and we all hold each other accountable.

We have zero tolerance for bullying or violence. In the event of an incident, we will speak with the students and families. We will work together to create a plan for improvement. However, if there is no consistent improvement, we may have to make the difficult decision about whether it is the right environment for the child.

Do you have a program calendar for the year?

Yes. Here is a projected calendar for the year. We will begin during the first week of September and finish during the last week of June. We have 7 sessions throughout the year, lasting 5-6 weeks each.

Between each session is a 1-week reset for our young leaders, providing ample opportunity for quality family time. This allows everyone to reset and return energized and recharged for the next session. Our goal is to maintain an atmosphere of excitement about learning, giving the program more of a camp feel.

What are the expectations of parents?

We believe that parents are the primary educators of their children. As such, we want families that want to be in relationship and work in community to raise the best young leaders and humans as possible. While we have no mandatory attendance or volunteer hours for parents, we will welcome you in. Additionally, parents will receive a variety of support to grow into their best selves as well - a year long coaching program, family events and workshops.

Do you offer scholarships or accept EdChoice?

Unfortunately, we are not able to accept EdChoice vouchers.

There is a scholarship application through our parent organization, but there is no guarantee that funds will be provided. We would ask that you start by applying and setting up a studio visit to ensure that it is a good fit on both ends. At that point, we will share the scholarship application and/or work with you to find funds or collaborate on creative funding solutions together.

Are you hiring?

At this time, founders Erika (veteran teacher) and Joshua (veteran coach) will be leading the school. Depending on enrollment, we may hire an assistant coach. Please feel free to reach out with interest.
